![]() There is no nutrition information or calculation.Ĥ. ![]() I have to open a recipe, click the "sidebar" icon, to get my list of recipes so I can view recipe list and selected recipe content at the same time (and move easily from recipe to recipe).ģ. You can't make batch changes to recipes other than selecting and dragging into a category folder.Ģ. Limitations I have observed in Paprika: (I am still new to it, so I may not have discovered how to do these things.)ġ. It becomes a clickable link that brings up the sub-recipe. It was as simple as adding " around the ingredient/recipe name. I had to manually go into the recipe in Paprika and re-assign. If you referenced sub-recipes in MGD, that info did not transfer. (Again, I don't know if that is an export or import issue.)Ĩ. 1&2 map to "Easy" 3&4 map to "Medium" and 5 maps to Hard.ħ. MGD has 5 levels of difficulty in addition to not assigned. I don't know if that is an export or an import issue. All recipes in MGD with no assigned difficulty level are labeled "Easy" in Paprika. (Some people like numbered steps, others don't).Ħ. Paprika does not number steps in directions. (In retrospect Notes might have been a better place.ĥ. I manually moved the Yield info into directions. (Servings does.) Some recipes are more suited to a yield than servings. I had used that field for lots of things in addition to URLs. ![]() The "Info" field in MGD maps to "Source URL" in Paprika. Paprika does highlight times it detects in instructions, so that helps.ģ. It ignores all the other times I had used. Importing assigns Active, Bake, Beat, Chill to Cook time Start to Finish, Total Time, and Ready In to Total Time Prep to Prep Time. (I would like to see at minimum a "Inactive" Time to cover marinating, cooling, resting, etc.). For Times, Paprika only has Cook, Prep, and Total times. (Note, you cannot make batch changes for individual categories in MGD so be careful.)Ģ. I created new categories for those fields in MGD and assigned them manually. The special fields of Course, Cuisine, Prepared, Keywords, Equipment did not. ![]() However, I ran into a number of issues of lost information.ġ. I, too, finally grew tired of several years of "we expect to release an update for MGD this year." I bought Paprika during their annual Black Friday sale. Here is what I added to the thread about my experience with importing into Paprika from MGD. Neither do any Clippings that have not been fully imported. Looking over this, I realize I forgot to include that Cooking Notes, Wine, Beer, and Cheese content do not export. The software isn't under maintenance at this time.” It also appears that from Big Sur on MGD has become even more fragile than it already is. I came across a thread in MacRumors about MGD and someone reported that Mariner’s reply to his inquiry about MGD’s future was "Hi, you might want to look for an alternative. I have a lot of recipes already in MacGourmet and transferring to another software was a pain last time I seriously looked at switching (I originally used MasterCook on a windows system and have made the conversion once and don't want to make it again unless it is easy). On Sat, at 1:33 PM cckborg wrote: The transition from MGD to Paprika has not gone as simply as I would have liked. I don't import too many recipes anymore (have way too many already collected) so this isn't a big issue for me. They had a period when it didn't work too well - Still may be their weakest feature. You may have been unhappy with the import feature of MacGourmet when you switched to Paprika. I think Paprika and MacGourmet are far more alike than different. And I'm just a customer - no kickback for this endorsement! You can also search by name ("meat loaf," for example) if you haven't made a category for that already, and all of your meat loaf recipes come up (I just did a search, and because it's SO darn easy to import recipes, it turns out that I have 18 meat loaf recipes!!! Here's a screen shot showing how you can create any category you want, and the same recipe can be in as many of them as you like, so it's really easy: It can also convert your recipe into a grocery list, though I don't use that a lot. I used to use MacGourmet and liked it, but got frustrated for some reason I no longer remember, and switched to Paprika, and I LOVE Paprika! I agree with that it's amazingly easy to import recipes from the Web, and a great thing about an app is that I have ALL of my recipes in my pocket anywhere I go! (I have Paprika on my computer, my iPhone and my iPad.) If I'm away from home, they're all still right there in my pocket. It does take some time and effort to convert if you are still all paper, but well worth it. So much easier to keep organized more useful than old index cards. I do have a couple of three ring binders with printed out copies of my favorite recipes. I have been using recipe software for years now.
