![]() I played Birthright on permadeath (because it's the easier game from the Fates Duo) and I finally get it now. I started on casual and didn't get the appeal - most permadeath players just restart the map anyway if someone dies? Why bother? ![]() You should absolutely try permadeath at one point. Those are both super fun and absolute bullshit rng. Don't feel bad for focussing on a few units and sticking with them - just make sure your base team is diverse (archers, mages, pegasus knights will give you an edge, so don't just focus on tanky or hard hitting melee units).Īlso, embrace crit and evade. That can be very overwhelming if you want to try everyone - it's basically to make up for losses if you play with permadeath. Feeding crap units some easy kills is hard work, but it's what will help you build a diverse army.Īt one point the game will just throw units at you. I would recommend playing with perma death (especially since all older games have it and no way to deactive it), but I can totally understand where you are coming from.įrederick is awesome, but don't forget to level other units too. Basically, you play more reckless because "you have nothing to loose", which is just not the case with perma death. However, the way you play changes completely if you know permadeath is there compared to when you know said character just comes back next chapter. And yes, if someone dies I just restart the chapter. I totally understand why some people deactivate it. ![]() One last thing on the subject of perma death. It's on the easy side, also has a world map like Awakening but mission design is more interesting and I think it's a nice bridge between Awakening style Gameplay and older style gameplay. I would probably recommend Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones for the GBA as a second game. Gameplay is one of the best in the series though. It's much harder than it's counterpart Birthright and has a mission design more akin to the older games, but by god the story is bad. If you are not interested that much in the story but really REALLY like the gameplay, take a look at Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. And Lunatic mode is stupid as hell, but that's nothing someone who plays their first FE should start anyway.Īs far as which other games you should play: Basically every mission is either "kill all enemies" or "kill the boss", whereas older titles also had "Survive for X turn", "Reach point Y" or something else. The mission design is really "boring" compared to many others. Just the fact that you can deactive permadeath - which I would never do btw - is a game changer for many people. It may not have the best story in the franchise (much better than Fates though), but it has enough new additions and quality of life changes that it can be played by much more people. Thanks.Īwakening is definitly a great starting point for the series. Also which of the other FE games should i definitely check out afterwards? Please no Story Spoilers though. So yeah if any of you have some tips and tricks, i'd appreciate it. I can already tell that i will probably really like this game, so i'm excited to really dive into it. I also decided to play without perma death because i know myself, i would just reload if i'd lose a squad member. The combat i good and i really love the character art. So far i only played the first 2-3 chapters to get a feel for it and i'm really liking it. I was looking at the series for a long time but I never really got into it because i'm not the biggest handheld gaming fan i guess.Īnyways i decided to go with Awakening for my first FE game because everything i looked up about it ticked all my boxes and it is supposedly pretty beginner friendly. Originally i was intending to wait on FE: Three Houses this summer to play my first FE game but the year is pretty slow so far when it comes to new releases (for my tastes), so i thought screw it and picked it up. So i finally got around to playing a FE game.
